Though currently running with a diesel over hydraulic power-train RETRIEVER was always specifically designed to operate as a Range Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV). Improving this further, there are now some excellent low-carbon and fuel-efficient results coming from micro-turbine REEVs, especially where the turbines are operated continuously at their highest efficiencies. State-of-the-art micro-turbines offer significantly extended servicing intervals and are now being combined with advanced control and battery solutions. Such power-trains - offering long-term reliability and comparatively clean power generation - are currently being explored.
